Black 4" deep shadow box frame moulding...

I don't know of any off hand. You may have to go with the Framerica Boxer, or Gemini has something similar.

If you need a 4" deep frame, I suggest considering an acrylic box instead. The difference might amaze you. I mean the acrylic box might be cheaper, as well as better.

Because the deep box of wood would cast long shadows in most lighting conditions, you would probably have to increase its size in order to show off whatever is in there.

An acrylic box would show off the framed item(s) better and because light shines through, it probably could be built with narrower perimeter margins. And you can use any standard-rabbet-depth moulding, which opens up your design options.

Here's an example I have in my shop of the technique Jim just described. Showing this really helps the customer visualize the effect, and it almost sells itself in many circumstances.

We've also used acrylic boxes on a number of objects, like a full set of golf clubs, a firemans coat/hat/end of hose, etc. All with setback frames, like Rick's great example, but can also look nice without a frame.

Try Fosters Mouldng in the Los Angeles area. Their mouldings are unfinished but the depth that you want would not be a problem and they finish nicely. You can use a black stain and let the grain show or seal and paint with a gloss black. I have used a lot of it and they are good people. Don't have the telephne number with met but try one of your catalogues provided by PPFA. They may be on the internet also..

I have know the owners for several years, worked with them previously before they started their business.

Good Luck!

Like Jim and Rick mentioned I often use an acrylic front instead of a deep shadowbox.

But if you need a 4" shadowbox there are several options. LJ has their Imperial 4" moulding, albeit decorative and expensive. You can always build your own box and use a cap moulding. Or you can have a local cabinet maker build one. Or you can call Eric at Framesplus ... he builds shadowboxes up to 22" deep!
