So in a disturbing new trend some customers have brought in photos or artwork printed on vinyl and the whole thing was one big sticker, apparently intended to just stick right to the wall. Smallest one has been 16 x 20, largest 36 x 48.

Any success mounting these?

After a first epic fail I've been hinging or sandwiching between foam core and glass without removing it's release paper.

To mount these you need to use sign techniques. Mount to plex and use some soapy water on the plex to allow it to slip and slide.

Since it was probably printed at a sign shop, perhaps we should start requesting those shops finish the job?

I sometimes wonder if these places have ever thought to take one second to say "you know this probably not exactly how this product was intended to be used before I print this you may consider......"

Oh Jeff that makes me cry.

Jay I hear you. I've told them that this isn't exactly how this product is intended to be used! When they ask why and I tell them it's a sticker they obviously think "well stick it down then." Sounds logical.

I reasoned I better figure how how to deal with it better.

On the funny side... you ever pull the release paper off one of these and hold it 6 inches above a sheet of foam core?

LOL gravity.

Johnny, youre right about the magnetic appeal of those things. I had a lady bring a vinyl in the shape of a school bus (about 16x20). She was running for the school board. Thank goodness she was a good customer and had multiples of these things because I bombed on the first try. I snatched the release paper off the back, and I swear it grabbed the sheet of matboard off the table!! 1000 bubbles later, I got another one. Slowly pulled the release paper as I pressed. Perfect!
Cant imagine doing anything larger.

Is this the way people will be displaying their pictures in the future? What's to keep them from adding a graphic of a nice frame around the image while printing?

Guy had sticker shock on Tuesday as I went over the $20 for scanning his 23.2x29.75 1921 photo in 6 bites and stitching it together. $200 for 6 hours of photoshop work . . . $100 to print on Sentra.

His ears were already plugged when it came to the idea of a frame..... which he would just run 4 drywall screws into to secure it in his restaurant...

So I slapped a 1" black border with high lights.... presto 2-D frame.

i got one in a month ago for the local supermarket. the store manager is a glider enthusiast. the image was 26x68.

used the same methods i use for "laminating" with bienfang laminate.
no bubbles at all. it was mounted onto 3/16 white gatorboard. wasn't a big deal and it was framed for store display.

Baer... why didn't you add a nice faux 3" white mat along with that nice black frame??
