I was just updating my mouldings and mats database in LifeSaver and got the following info:

- Decor has discontinued 86 mouldings.
- Bainbridge has discontinued 74 mats.

So, keep that in mind when you're selling. Good thing that in my POS if I enter something and the system cannot find it, then I know that with %99 certainty it is discontinued.

I know that once a company discontinues something they really don't care about it but wouldn't you love to see a company that mails out a list along with a little picture of what the moulding looks like.

I HATE selling a design to a customer and then put it in my pos only for it to tell me that it is discontinued.

I think forest does this but they don't usually have that much discontinued.

HEY BIG GUYS THAT ARE LURKING ... WE WANT PICTURES, WE DON'T LIKE WAsTING TIME FLIPPING THROUGH YOUR CATALOGS (those of you that actually send out updated catalogs)

Art-O-Rama does this, I believe. Or maybe it was Bendix?

Also Marcia for Studio has a list of all my samples and when she comes in she has a list of MY d/ced! She's great that way.

Luckily, there were no price increases or discontinued items for any of the Decor Mouldings I carry.

For those who carry Decor, but do not have a POS (like me), if you ask them nicely, they will e-mail you an updated price list at the first of every month.

It will not flag any d/c for you, but at least if you can’t find it in the chart, you can assume that it is no longer available.

The electronic version of their price list will generally get to you a few days before their printed notifications, so you’ve got a few more days of wiggle room to adjust your prices or cull samples from your wall.

My Larson Rep does this for me!!
Whats a Larson Rep? </font>[/QUOTE]Yeah seriously! Do those people exist??

I opened an account with Larson Juhl 5 weeks ago (sir, your Rep will get in touch with you in 24 hours....!). And guess what?

And calling the New Accounts manager and leaving messages doesn't help either.

How did LJ become such a name in the industry with such lousy service is beyond me.

My Larson rep is probably the best rep I have.

Forest is a close 2nd.

ALL my other reps come in maybe once a year and Decor I think has been here once since I opened. When I went to the NY show I had another rep from Decor help me.

I don't think any of them pulled anything from my walls.

Be careful of the Bainbridge especially the whites with a " V ". They inadvertantly left off the " V " so they showed up deleated but the are not. They are still their with the number only.

My LJ rep IS my best rep, and if you've not seen yours Paul, I'd believe that one is certainly the exception to the rule. Customer Service is LJ's forte, and they are very adamant about that...and good at it. Call again, or wait, and I'll bet because you've posted this, you'll hear from yours soon! Mine comes by on approx. a 6-week cycle, and always sends a postcard a couple of weeks ahead to let me when know she'll be here.

My other reps are good too, but because Carson City isn't in the "main stream", I have to call now and then to get them to visit (or whenever they're in Reno, playing!), especially now that I'm the "new owner", as my predecessor didn't do much with them.

Do you ask them to pull the discontinueds when they're there? And mark the catalogue? If not, ask!! I'd bet they won't refuse you.

Here we go, another Rep thread!

LJ Cynthia, you watching this?? You're da BEST!!

My Larson rep is great. He does look for discontinued stuff on my displays and pulls them off for me; he did that last time he was here. He also gives me loads of helpful ideas for building my business. I just took over my shop in October, and he'd really like to see me succeed. Of course, it's to his advantage, too, if I do, but he really goes to a lot of trouble for me, giving me pricing breaks, telling me some great ideas, and generally being very helpful and friendly.

Well Val, I really don't need to run after any company to buy their mouldings!

If they have enough customers and cannot use an established gallery in very affluent New Canaan, CT, well good for them.

Maybe that explains why the previous owner didn't care for them.

Merps: yup. My LJ rep spent about four hours with us on Friday and reviewed all our samples; most of the Hacienda line is gone. Some other minor stuff too altho it was the stuff we don't show anyway so I wasn't listening.

About the Bainbridge "V" code. If you're using Lifesaver like I am, just delete the "V" in your mat profiles. Did that and it works just fine.

To Paul N. - where did you hear Bainbridge discontinued 74mats?
The list I have has 31 deletions. If there are more, us reps don't know about it! Please make sure it isn't your distributor who is adding to the deletions. One thing Bainbridge does do, is only have deletions every 2 years, so the new specifiers, which will be out by the end of the this month, will be good until Jan 2008. I do agree pictures would be good, especially for us reps who go through and pull the deletions for our customers. I'll pass that suggestion along.

I received a list in the mail from LJ of all the LJ and Artique additions and deletions. It also included the Bainbridge deletions. From my rep?

FYI...For anyone having Lifesaver, Lifesaver listed 74 Bainbridge Mat deletions when in actuality, there are only 31. Your Lifesaver needs to be updated to 4.30, if you are still having problems call Lifesaver at 800-381-0600, hope this helps

My POS, LifeSaver, gets the updates directly from NB, not from elsewhere.

When I posted the message, I had ran an update on the mats database, and it showed 74 deletions from NB.

I suspect many were because the vellums were zapped and replaced with their new (non V suffix) numbers. (NB sent this update through on or about March 22, 2006)

Even though the mats still exist with a new identity, they flowed through the delete list and then to the add list (with their newly assigned ID #).

Example:
Previous #: B8463V
Changed to: B8463 (and B8463L)

It's probably fairly rare for a vendor to change the number of an active product. The vellums have NOT been discontinued, just renumbered.

That is my understanding of what might be the reason.

Mike

PS: There's another thread about this in the POS/Computer forum.
