Being relatively new to this business, what sources do you all suggest for finding prints to carry for sale? I've had a few customers asking about purchasing prints.

And by the way, this message board has been an awesome source of assistance to me - THANKS to all of you!!

And a special thank you to Baer - I consider your words and encouragement the "flowers" I needed!

A consolidator, like Lieberman's, can give you access to 100 or more top publishers, without having to pay a separate shipping charge or meet the minimums of each.

if you are interested in limited edition prints i would recommend deljou... or finding artist reps in your area, most reps have websites for you to view the work. the nice thing about going through a rep is they may work something out with you that you can carry the work for a limited time on consignment.

As with any topic here it all depends on your market and what type of business you want to be. If you want to be an art dealer then you need to carry art from many publishers.

Image Conscious and Bruce McGaw are great publishers as well as Art in Motion and Editions Limited. The best thing to do is go to Atlanta and check them all out. Also you need to decide who you want to be, ie, all limited editions, all open editions, or a little of both. You also need to decide how much inventory you want to carry. Unless you decide you want to carry a large selection of art, you more than likely will not become "the local source for art". Also you must be able to put your personal tastes aside and carry art that you do not like, if you only carry art you like then you will only get customers who like the same as you.

As I have said before, there is good money to be made in art but if you do not do it right then you might as well not bother doing it because will get stuck with art that will never sell.

Janis, Lieberman's is easy to work with and they ship prints quickly. As Ron pointed out, there are no minimums and only the one shipping charge.

You can call them (800-221-1032) and talk to a real person or order on line. Their ArtExplorer disc is worth having.

Why isn't that link working? I cut and pasted from their site.

Edit: Nevermind - it works.
