Please post some of the great deals that are being offered this week on Mitre Saws. I am in the market and would like to know the best and cheapest.....double is a definite consideration

If you're in Vegas at the moment, stop by PAM Fasteners if they're there. They deal with Inmes equipment. It's Brazilian-made and half the price of the others.
Last year I bought an Inmes 350 Double Mitre from them and the thing is a work horse! Very accurate and dependable with no maintenance issues. Other companies also deal Inmes products, but do you research before you buy from them. PM me for the sales contact if you like.

For single mitres, Frame Square has a nice reliable model that's equally as popular. Also cuts really nicely. This is the saw we upgraded from.

The following posts will reveal the can of worms you've opened :) So be sure to have answers to:
  1. What is your spending budget?
  2. How much moulding do you cut per week?
  3. How do you trim moulding now?
  4. Why are you looking for a new/used saw?
  5. Do you have the space for one of these things?

Good luck! Also, keep in mind that two beavers tied to a fishing pole can cut moulding as good/bad as any $10,000 mitre saw -- the real factors on accuracy are the quality of the moulding, and the position in the saw during the cut.

If you go to WCAF you can sometimes get good deals on the demo models on the floor. I bought my first good saw this way. Shipping from the floor to my shop turned out to be a little more complicated than anybody had hoped, but it all worked out in the end.

If you can find an old Pistorius saw with decent motors and which still has its in & out tables and has not been modified for some industrial process, go for it. Rugged as all get out, no exotic parts, any bonehead can understand it and fix it.

In my experience i have learned that cheap tool is also not very good unless the good one is on sale...
i have not worked with any other double miter saw other than pistorius emn14 and i love it...
acording to many framers pistorius miter saws are probably the best of its kind...
but like anything else you pay for what you get...
consider getting a second hand one if you cant afford a new one...

consider a emn14 because youll get wider cuts...
just my opinion...

double is a definite consideration

having gone over the the 'light' side(fixingup/using a 2 saw setup) I wouldn't think of doing it anyother way!!!!!!! had the other swa for 2 yrs just sitting under the work table----2x the PIA to setup/maintain but 4X the lower BP level!!!!!!!!!!
it's kinda like heroin---once yoyr hooked it's almost impossible to go w/o. you won't be sorry in the long run.:p

Pistorius or CTD for true double miter. Frame square is the most versatile but slow. Never used the Imnes but have heard a lot of good things about them and Pam Fasteners is an excellent company to work with on anything.

CTD and Pistorius last FOREVER since they were designed for heavy duty metal cutting in the machine shop environment. The real question is what and how much are you cutting. If you are cutting anything in the over 4" range you need 14" Double Miter or a Frame Square.

The best miter saw is one with an expensive blade. It ain't the saw, it's the blade.

John

A good blade does not need to be expensive. I own a lot of very expensive blades that came with my saw and they are no better than OEM blades that can be purchased at half the price. Quinn Saw can set you up with the right blade and save hundreds per set.
