Ready to test your knowledge of preservation framing? Looking for a hands-on evaluation of your work? Join an exclusive group of framing professionals who have earned the Master Certified Picture Framer (MCPF) designation, identifying you as a skilled framer capable of preserving treasured works of art and personal memories!

PPFA will offer the MCPF exam on Monday, March 2 and Tuesday, March 3 in Las Vegas, Nev. during the PPFA 2009 Annual Convention.

Exam slots are filling fast! Don’t miss out!

Any picture framer with a minimum of four years of hands-on experience in retail or wholesale picture framing, who has been a CPF for a minimum of four years, and who has taken a Recertification course within the last four years may apply.

This two-part exam includes the disassembly and examination of four framed works (art on paper, art on canvas, textile, and object) and framing an item, onsite, in a frame shop environment. This rewarding experience requires exam preparation, so make plans to register today.

Complete details about the certification and exam registration can be found at the PPFA website.

I know that as a newly-minted CPF I have four years to change my mind, but I must say that at the moment the prospect of the MCPF exam scares the bejeeberz out of me. I know that my work is not perfect, and to have a panel of MCPFs taking apart and poring over my work is just... terrifying. I mean, what if the masking tape isn't perfectly straight? Or I haven't cut the chipboard backer perfectly square? Did I use enough silicone to glue the needlework down? There's so much that can go wrong....

Jim,
Don't forget the half inch overcuts in your mats or gaps in frame joints wide enough to park a bus in! ;);)

MCPF is a great test of your ability, skills and knowledge, and to see how you compare with others who have passed this uncompromising test.

For years, framers have criticized the CPF exam because it does not test manual skills.

Well, here's your test of manual skills, ladies and gentlemen.

ok, dumb question.

I was a cpf for 5 years. didn't re-certify. retook the cpf exam last year and passed, again. so have I been a cpf for 7 years and can I take the MCPF exam or do I have to wait 2 more years?

Call PPFA and ask Heather Kelso about that: 1-800-762-9287, extension 181.

If they allow your previous CPF status to apply, you would only have to attend a Recertification class in order to qualify. Even "grandfathered" CPFs, who are not required to Recertify in order to keep their CPF status, are required to attend a Recertification class for MCPF qualification. I was in that situation, so I took a Tel-Ed Recertification class (by conference call) just a few months before I took the MCPF exam.
