I'm a new grumbled and a fairly new framer.
Can anyone give me some hints on framing a batik work with a light behind it?
I've seen it in South Africa, but realise that there would be a much larger fire hazzard here in North America.
Thanks!

Welcome to the Grumble, Nannette.

There you are - "a fairly new framer" - and already you have discovered that some customers are bound and determined to destroy their artwork through framing.

Some things to consider: there is always some wax left in the fabric on a piece of batik; it is highly flammable. If the artist used vegetable rather than analine dyes, they will fade over time when exposed to light.

Are you thinking of incorporating the light source into the framing? Will there be a cord hanging down from the frame or are you looking for something battery-operated?

I think this project is going to cause you a lot of problems but I wish you luck with it.
