I haven't posted a PC deal in a while, because they have all been Vista and don't work with visualization systems. (Canon has yet to release the drivers for their cameras, for developers to use in programs such as viz systems - although they'll be out soon)

Here is an entry level PC that you can order with the new Windows (Vista) -or- with the previous version of Windows (XP). This isn't a powerhouse machine, but is suitable for a slave/client/add-on workstation in a POS environment, to drive a CMC, for visualization (with XP), etc. It only comes with 512 memory, so I suggest doubling this amount to 1gb for $60 more (2gb is $190) It also includes a 19" LCD monitor, and free shipping.

If you wish to add more terminals to your POS, please check with your vendor before purchasing. Ask if their product works with Vista before deciding. Since this can be ordered with Vista or XP, it should benefit everyone. (LifeSaver does work with Vista, and i'll add a tip to the other thread with specific instructions today)

PS: Periodically, I post tech deals - as found on the internet. This is not a commercial post and I don't profit from it personally.

And I was thinking maybe I didn't get such a good deal a month and a half ago. Until I went through that offer and made the selections to match what I got (except for the two I couldn't - I got the x2 5000+ instead of the 3800+ and 4 years warranty instead of 3) and it was $250 more than what I paid....

However, it IS still a good deal for a basic machine. Just don't try to bump it up too much - I'm guessing that's what they're hoping people will do and end up paying big time for the extras.

Also, the deal ends TODAY. Maybe they had too good response and pared it back.

Mike is recommending an AMD powered PC???

I am shocked, shocked......:p:p:p

Actually, it 's a great PC for the price and I was always an advocate of PCs with AMD chip instead of Intel.

Mike, if you find a superior deal for a notebook with Windows XP, let us know. I'm still taking my time to find a lap top to work on Mat Designer at home, and as a future home notebook for a POS. Its either that or a new Mac with parallels and Bootcamp--MUCH more expensive. No rush on this. Thanks!

Id'e suggest u find a local Pc person and see if they can put one together for u at a similar price to that and u may find you'll get some just as good if not better, but it will be easier to upgrade later coz with a dell if it needs parts or servicing you will have to return it to them and that may hurt($$$) later on.

However in saying all that my second pc is a dell which i have had for five yrs or so and have had no problems with that but also had to spend money on better graphics, memory and a bigger hard drive so why not spend a littlle extra straight up and get a better graphics card for viewing photos as u would want pics etc to come up fast therefore spending less time in front of ur pc and spending it in the factory or behind the matt cutter.

I mean they even tell u to upgrade before u even get the pc,why do u think they are selling the vista at the same price as XP(because you will have to upgrade through them, more money to spend)they have poor graphics,no dvd burner,no built in modem,no optical mouse,no anti virus and 1 yr warranty!!!
But if its not going on the net or not using graphic demanding programs then its prolly pretty good!

You will prolly end paying double that!

Hope i didn't scare u off.

p.s:Stick with XP and dont worry that deal will be back soon u watch!

Simon. :)

This deal is still working, as of this writing. (Even though it says it expired yesterday)

It's always best to support a local dealer, which is what I do for my personal (home) computers. You'll pay 2-3 times more than these Dell deals, and will have to buy everything a la carte. The advantage is that you can upgrade just some of the components 3 years later, when you upgrade again. (new motherboard and chip for 300-400 or so)

I consider the Dells a disposable item, suitable for business. They're reliable and the price is right. My only advice, when dealing with Dell, is always buy from the 'small business division'- based in the USA. Their 'home division' outsources to India, and it can be very difficult sometimes. The phone connections are often poor, and it's hard to understand each other.

Here are some more laptops for today. Note I have the 640M model, and highly recommend it. My brother also has this model. They originally came with XP(12/06), but I have since upgraded them to Vista.
