Frames & Fabric, For Fun & Profit
Featuring Baer Charlton, CPF
Baer Charlton, CPF, of Charlton Productions, is an internationally recognized award winning framer who has lectured on, and taught many aspects of framing in New Zealand, Australia, Europe, Central & North America and even lecturing on the high seas Mid-Atlantic aboard the Wind Surf in 2006. Raised at the knee of his multi-media artistic mother, it was a natural extension for Charlton to take up framing at an early age. He has studied many of the classical forms, which has lead to representations of his art and framing in collections on five continents. His teaching and studies, have taken him around the world. Currently, along with retail framing, he represents Frank's Fabrics for Framers, teaches seminars (most recently at the PPFA Annual Convention), and is a world-recognized writer with articles appearing in DECOR, Picture Framing Magazine, trade journals and other general public magazines.

Morning Seminar
8:45 a.m. - 12:00 noon
Socio-Anthropological History of Frames & Framing
In the 27,000 known years of creating artworks, man has only been concertedly framing for about the last 600. This session examines the social and political influences that inspired the creation and changes in picture framing. From the icon, through the "periods" and "schools,", and up to modern times, the class examines the most pronounced forms of European and American framing that still influence what we sell today in our frame shops. Understanding where today's designs and frames come from, aids in the matching and selling of frame jobs for today and tomorrow.
Cost: $35/member; $50/non-member

Afternoon Workshop
1:30 p.m. - 5:00 p.m.
Fabric Wrapping
Take your mat skills to a higher and more profitable level. Learn the basic time efficient way of wrapping a single mat for profit, then translate that skill into a waterfall or embossed double mat. A new and exciting "Flexible Fabric Fillet" will also be taught. The session will also cover seamless liners, mitered upholstered corners, retail pricing structures and how to maximize your wrapping.
Materials provided by Frank's Fabrics and Don Mar.
Cost: $70/member; $85/non-member

Sign up for both sessions and get a $15 discount!

Evening Mini Trade Show, Meeting & Program
Doors open at 6:00 p.m.
Sponsor display tables, nibbles, and networking.

7:15 p.m.
Featuring Fabric Financially
"Pro-active framing" is the new standard for pushing your business past survival. It is no longer 1964 when a store could just "offer" items and services. Big Boxes and the
Internet are eating your lunch and keeping the change by doing this, but at a whole larger more efficient level. Just opening the door 10 minutes early and staying 30 minutes later won't ring the register anymore. Adding fabric to your line-up can grow your bottom line larger then any other change you can make, but just adding isn't enough, you need to "feature". Baer will show you how to feature, think and understand fabric in ways that will make higher sales a wrap.

Display tables and networking continue until 10:30 p.m.

Can I be Baer's lovely assistant and interpretor???

umm Bob, you HAVE read his posts...right?

Yeah, Baer speaks Baer-ese. It's his very own private language. What's scary is, sometimes I even understand it!

I can only imagine what it must be like to be in that head of his!

Awww Steph, I've been practicing my Vana impression for a month!

But, if you come, we can try for translation ... I was hoping the pretty pictures and hand gestures would suffice.

You told me it was a CJ impression... Vanna's an old married MOM. Not even a MI**...... forgot, I get in trouble when I use that term.... :D

Nancy, the only thing missing will be the Long Island Lemonaid Steph serves at her classes.... so I expect straiter grain on the fabric. :D

May I put in my 2 cents worth on this thread?

If you can at all make this, it will be very worth your time. This past Saturday, I had the opportunity to attend Baer's seminar at Nelson's in Traverse City, MI. It was definitely worth it. I have done fabric wraps for years, but there is still something to learn.

Oh, yes, then you must report back here regarding his red crocks!!! :D

Okay, I’m in – at least for the fabric wrapping portion of it.

Who else has signed up?

They still have a greyhound race track in Taunton?

Space is LIMITED! Get your check in today!

Also, It wasn't well publicized, but there WILL be a CPF exam administered in the afternoon that day. Casey (works for me) is taking the exam. [Baer, means she won't be in the class, but will be around in the evening.]

Bill, I'LL be there! Also, I sure Andy and Mike are coming that day. (not sure if they signed up for the class or not.) I think Steph is coming. (Long ride for her though)

Hope to see MANY of you there!
Cliff

We'll be there for sure!

Mike & Andy

Good!

Keep your eyes out for the best dressed, handsomest, debonair stud there … I’ll be the 6’, overweight, balding guy with a graying beard standing next to him.

I look forward to meeting you all.

Really

The check is in the mail!!! :icon19:
Save me a seat

Sorry Nancy, didn't want to worry you ... I was trying to say You HAVE got your seat! It wasn't a question.

The rest of the post was to OTHER people! I was trying to say Nancy's coming everybody else LET's Go!

Sorry for the confusion.

Signed up way long ago. Just booked my room for Sunday night.

I'm all set.

Bumped to the top.

There's STILL time to sign up.

See you there!
Mike

Sleeping out!

We are going to be making a 'long week-end' out of the trip, so.......does anyone know of any good campgrounds? Hubby is willing to get up at the crack of dawn Monday, so by the water would be best.

Any tips before I go on line.

It might be a little late, by try the Bourne Campground. It's right on the Cape Cod canal and less than a half hour up I495 to the Class in Taunton.

There are many on the Cape, but I don't know how quickly they fill up?

Good Luck

Isn't there a river that runs through Taunton? I seem to remember a huge article about "rebuilding the Taunton dam".

Shot in the dark, but I found a site at Massasoit State Park.......looks to be in the general vicinity of Taunton. They say they are on a big pond....we'll see. Just looking forward to getting away.

See you Monday

Joe, I sent Mitch an email, but don't worry. Come. We'll sort it out later if there is confusion. I suspect Mitch is just waiting to make one deposit.

It was a good time - and nice to see everyone again!
