This is an odd one....I came to my computer tonight and I saw this big 'ol certificate that says "Backweb Securtity notice". It then goes on to tell me "A new certificate has arrived for channel'hp home server'. It will be used to digitally sign the channel's contents. Do you wish to accept this certificate?" I decided to say no. But when I did that a new warning came up that say's "Declining a certificate is recommended only if you suspect it. Declining the certificate will prevent you from getting encrypted content, and signed content will not be verified. If you wish to accept the certificate, Click the cancel button. Otherwise, click the OK button.

The certificate itself says "This Certificate is published by Consumers PCs Hewlett-Packard Cupertino, CA US. As a publisher under credentials issued by "Secured Server Certification Authority RSA Data Security, Inc. US Expires May 17,2002.

I didn't do anything to prompt this. I did try to do some updates for that service pack 2 thing, but it slowed down my system and I rebooted and aborted the install. I feel like something is trying to take over my computer.

Sign me,
Perplexed

So, Mike does that mean it is a "Pest" and I don't need it? Can I tell it to get lost?

It looks like some kind of HP s/w to install updates for system drivers or some such thing. Its probably harmless and is probably listed in the add/remove programs list if you want to remove it. It probably has an HP name. Dell does something similar.

XP Sp2 is very important. If youre on dialup and it takes too long, order the free cd. It comes in less than a week.

Mike

Yeah, I know I need the SP2. To tell the truth I started it and I had a customer come into the store and my POS was slow so I dumped the update....I'm gonna do it. Just don't know why this thing popped up after I rebooted.........danged computers.
