Can someone tell me the space relationships of kb, mg, bites, etc...

I have a file that I am trying to transfer to a disk that is 49,000 kb. How does that relate to 700 mb?

Also, how much space is on a 3.5" floppy, normally?

Thanks,

ROz

There are 1000 kb in a 1mb. (Acutually 1024) and then there is 1000 mb in a gigabyte. Most harddrive today are 40or 80 or 160 gb.

49000 KB is 49 megabytes (roughly).

This will not fit on a floppy, but it will fit on a recordable CD, also called CDR (they range from 650 MB to 700 MB in size).

A recordable DVD on the other hand, has much more space, 4.7 Gigabyte which is about 6 times more than 700 MB.

..and new DVD drives from the past year or so are dual layer technology, so you can double that figure. Dual layer DVD burners are only about $38 at newegg.com. New higher capacity drives are on the horizon for later this year, to meet the needs of high definition tv requirements.

Are you ready for a headache?

8 bits = 1 Byte
1,024 Bytes = 1 Kilobyte (KB)
1,024 Kilobytes (KB) = 1 Megabyte (MB)
1,024 Megabytes (MB) = 1 Gigabyte (GB) (1,073,741,824 Bytes)
1,024 Gigabytes (GB) = 1 Terabyte (TB)
1,024 Terabytes (TB) = 1 Petabyte (PB)

Gigabytes (GB) are the most popular current measurement for home PCs

300gb hard drives have come way down in price, as have USB memory keys that come in popular sizes of 256mb, 512mb, 1gb, 2gb, 4gb, and 8gb. Floppy drives have been obsolete for many years now and are not included with new pcs.
