I have an older Morso Chopper Model F. It does not have the automatic rebate support attachment. Sometimes, it seems the frame slips out of place off the rebate supports. Has anyone gone from not having one to having one? How useful is this device? I understand that I can get this attachment? Does anyone have any idea how much such an attachment would cost? Also, the manual suggests that the machine should be cleaned and oiled quite frequently. How often do most of you clean and oil the machine?

Is your chopper manual (as opposed to pneumatic)? Are you talking about the metal piece that supports the rabbet so that the lip doesn't collapse/crack when the blades go through it? I have an old Jyden foot operated chopper (and have NO idea what the model is. Darn thing is older than dirt but still works well) and it has two adjustable supports on either side of the blades. I wouldn't chop anything without using those as they prevent the rabbet lip from cracking, especially on hard woods such as oak and maple.

I clean and oil it whenever it starts to feel like it's sticking (but that also depends on how much you use it). If you use it daily and use it a lot, then you might want to do that at least once or twice a month (or more if any of the moving/adjustable/sliding parts feels "tight").

Is This the gizmo? ;)

It looks a bit weird, but the idea is that the supports stay in the same place relative to the fences as you move the blades in and out.

I believe newer machines have pre-drilled holes in the cutter block, but older ones you have to drill them yourself.
