Is anybody familiar with auction sniper software? I've been checking some of the sites and I am afraid to use them because they are all asking for my Ebay user ID and my password. It seems that if I don't know who I am dealing with they could misuse that information.

I have been collecting old fashion magazines and seem to have some worthy opponents out there consistently bidding against me. It is time to take matters into my own hands.

Any ideas?

Why no set up a NEW user name and password to do your sniping with?

I like auctionsniper.com

emibub,
There are programs you can install on your computer, and are reliable, but you need to be online at the time of the auction end.

When I go on vacation for week I can have the service bid for me.

As for giving out unsername and password. You already did it with PayPal, and you already did it with andale.

And your password for e-bay is probally the same as your e-mail password, as well as your grumble password.

With the same password already floating in so many spots, will one more hurt?

As for software for your computer, here are four different ones I found on e-bay

Marc, I have different passwords depending on how sensitive the information is. I don't consider Ebay very sensitive, but I guess it is just odd giving them my password. I guess they need it to bid for me though. There doesn't seem to be much sense in having software if you have to be online for it to work.

I'm just looking for a couple sites that people have used and trusted. Yours and Barb's sound like a good start. Plus Curly's idea of creating a new username makes sense too.

I've just got a plan for things I want to sell and it looks like the competition might be tough. Thanks for the ideas.

I am a both a buyer and seller on eBay and I love sniper software. I personally use AuctionSniper (AuctionSniper.Com) and think that it's great. It allows me to snipe at a predetermined interval before the auction ends (I use 4 seconds) and enters my bid automatically. If I see something that ends on Sunday and today is Wednesday, I enter my bid into AuctionSniper and it will do the work on Sunday for me. If the auction goes above my bid before Sunday, it will email me and let me know.

As a seller, I know that lots of bidders use it. I average about $700-1300 a week selling on eBay and typically about 15-20% of my final dollar value will come in the last few seconds of my auctions. I have had no worries about security. I use auction management software (a couple of different types) also and have never had a problem with these sites knowing my eBay user ID and password.

The cost is cheap also. They only charge for auctions that you win. AuctionSniper is $.25 for auctions under $25.00 and 1% for auctions over that with a max fee of $5.00. My opinion is that you win auctions cheaper using sniping software. If an auction has bids early, other buyers can, and will, bid often. With your bidding held off till the last second, you lure other bidders into a false sense of security about their bids.

I've considered a sniper program before but never followed through. But I have a question.

What happens if the auction ends on Sunday, you place your (I guess, Maximum?) bid on Wednesday through Auctionsniper.com but Joe Cool has also placed a bid with Auctionsniper for the same item at the same 4 seconds for the same amount, THEN what happens?

Straight from the horse's (AuctionSniper's) mouth is the following from their FAQS.

What if two or more people snipe the same items at the same time?

Although the probability of this happening is very small, we have developed our software to give bidders an equal chance of winning in all possible cases.

For example: If two bidders are sniping on the same item with the same max bid, and both choose to snipe with just 5 seconds left -- our bidding system will send eBay both bids at the same time.

The rest is up to eBay. The winner will be the bid that eBay received first. We do not have control over which eBay servers we send to, and therefore cannot pre-determine who will win.

Larry,

Welcome to the Grumble!
