Framers,

After reading your posts on the sheepskin subject, I have concluded that the condition of the sheepskin diploma I have in my posession is too badly deteriorated to take on myself.

Is there someone in Texas, an archivist, conservator, or MASTER framer who I can refer this job too.

The client is willing to pay top dollar to do what it takes to preserve this 1911 diploma.

If I can get a response in the next 15 minutes.
That would be great. She will be calling me back to get a referal at that time.

Thanks !!

Hi Leeann,

I do not live in Texas, but have had success in restoring/ improving/ and "making suitable for framing" several sheepskins that were in pretty scary conditions! I'm a novice conservator, but am insured, so my charges are very reasonable.

If shipping is possible, please feel free to contact me...

Good luck! Lauralisa

Laura Lisa,
Thank you for the prompt response. I appreciate your offer, however I am concerned that from Texas to Minnesota there might be to much atmospherical change.

One thing the Grumble "sheepskin" thread noted, was that "if at all possible the sheepskin should be framed in the destination location or one similar to it."
we are frightfully humid down here in Central Texas and no telling what kind of changes might occur while in shipping route.

I am afraid I must decline the offer.

The client just called and she was floored by my honesty. SHe wants to bring all her friends, neighors and family into see me with there framing issues.
I guest honesty is the best policy!

Yikes. I just hope they are not sheepskins.

ANy hooo, I will reconnect with her on Monday,
SO if anyone still wants to take this on. A response by Monday would be GREAT!

Thanks,
PV

Understood, Lee Ann!

It would definitely be a shift in temperature and humidity, as right now in Minnesota it is FREEZING, and if I bathed in hand lotion, my skin would STILL be all dry!!!

Best wishes, and hope all turns out well.

Peavy,

I think I may have told you this before, but here it is again anyway.

The closest conservator to you is Cheryl Caraba at Caraba Conservation Inc. 2700 W. Anderson Lane. #12, Austin 78752-1132. Phone 512-452-5880. Email cherylc@io.com. She'll be able to tell you all you need to know about sheepskin.

Thanks! I remember and have her information from the last time. I was thinking that she might be my only bet here.
I will try her again. I might have to program her number into my phone. I have a feeling this wont be the last time I will need her services.
