I have been commissioned to frame a bicyclist’s jersey whose owner was in a sponsored race. She was given an official number which was attached to the jersey, but her husband doesn’t know how.

The number sign (approx. 7” x 7”) has the look and feel of thin Tyvek i.e. a slightly slippery but not easily torn material.

The number sign has clearly been used since it is somewhat wrinkled. Each corner of the sign has a small hole which I assume was designed to be the attachment points to the jersey.

What is the usual way of attaching such a number to a jersey? Safety pins? or some other method? I would like it to appear authentic.

The number bib is attached to the athlete with safety pins. I either use safety pins thru the four holes and then attach the pins to mat board using Attach-Ez or sewing with clear nylon thread.

Then there is the Masochists Marathon where they staple it to your chest!

But that's not archival :)

Thanks, all.

I’m going with the safety pins. The only tag system I have is Attach-EZ and I suspect the ends of the tags aren’t wide enough to stay in place through the holes in the bib.

While the staples would be quick and easy, they might be a wee bit irritating to the bicyclist.
