I believe that artist's tale is acid free. If so, is there any problem with using it for T hinges?

The only material safe for hinging works on paper is cooked starch paste and Japanese tissue. Commercial tapes include unknown ingredients, which means one can never know just what is being applied and what consequences that will have, even if the tape has a pH of 7, when it is made.

Another aspect that Artist Tape doesn't provide is the ability to tear before the the artwork itself. If the artwork is subject to physical trauma hinges made from a slightly weaker material than the substrate of the artwork will shear before the artwork itself tears.

The only place I use Artist Tapes for hinging is for replaceable snapshot type photos in a multi-opening mat.

Self adhesive tapes lose their tackiness, adhesive dries up and the bond will fail eventually.

It's amazing how little we found we use the stuff once it went to $12 a roll or whatever it's at now. I admit I used it a couple times when customers were yelling "CANT YOU JUST TAPE IT ON THE BACK" while taking apart photo frames on my front counter.
