It's geared for the end end user seeking near perfect color calibration, which was never really available for LCD monitors till now. It replaces the traditional flourescent backlight with a set of 48 color-adjustable LEDs. In addition to better color it also lasts much longer. Hopefully a sign of things to come for mass-market consumption.
