Perhaps I should have posted this on the Framing Business Issues forum, but I kinda like it here better.

I've been noticing some articles in PFM by Maria Nucci, and they are clearly written. She has some very good ideas. I've seen ads for her business, too, in the magazine.

The latest article in the August 2003 PFM is "A Classic Gold Bevel." It's easy to follow and has good illustrations. It's like a mini-class. Makes me want to go out and get some gold metal leaf and gold size, spray sealer, and fine steel wool. I think we have the other things.

Gold leaf bevels are so striking, and this article makes the technique very accessible.

I know the gold-leafed-bevel topic was on TG before. It just takes a while for things to sink in sometimes! Thanks Maria. I hope you are a Grumbler some day.

I'll second that. This one and her previous article on painted bevels and panels are both keepers. In fact I'm headed out this afternoon to pick up a few things I need to try it out.

One thing I was wondering about is the spray sealer. Exactly what do I look for? I assume it's something I can get at a good art supply store.

Is Maria perhaps a Grumbler? If not someone should extend an invitation to her to join the gang.

We use clear lacquer as a sealer for gold leaf and most of the other finishes we do. You can buy it in gloss, semi gloss, or flat. Seems to work great for us. You can also try Krylon mat finish spray. It is not as tough a finish as lacquer but is still a real handy finish to have on hand.

Hi Everyone,

I was in Atlanta this weekend for Decor Expo and heard about the positive response to my articles. Thanks to all of you.

The spray sealer I use for the gilded bevels is from EasyLeaf (a subsidiary of NEI Group). It's called "Air-O-Seal" but I imagine a spray laquer or shellac would work as well. By the way, their catalog is downloadable from www.easyleaf.com. You'll find all the things you'll need there.

Feel free to contact me privately with any more questions.

Working on ideas for future articles.....anything you're itching to learn about??

Thanks again!
