What is working for this age group?

"Trends" posters from Walmart. The companies that go from school to school with their discounted inventory sell anything from Justin Bua to whatever they can obtain cheap. Can't compete in this space.

Kirstie,
I another thread I've been inquiring about letter mats, with a particular interest in marketing them to sororities and fraternities. Are you doing any such business given the fact that you are in a college market?

I did a google search for Greek letter mats and got this:

It's from Kirstie's website. So yes, she does already make them.

Yes, you are right, this is from our site. So far, we have not had many takers for Greek mats. We actually sell more letter and printed mats on the corporate side, and in bulk, for companies that need a logo on a mat, or a cut out at the bottom of a series of mats for special events. We also sell more name mats out of our area than here in the Bay Area. Go figure.

Your comments remindme that we need to market the Greek mats more aggressively again. There is always a market for Big Sister-Little Sister presents, and so on. It is just about getting to the right person at the organization.

We have a bin outside the shop on the sidewalk that is labeled with a nicely printed framed sign that says something like
$10. each or FREE if framed or mounted here." It is easy to find posters for half that amount at wholesale from certain web sites. The bin empties regularly with hopefully not too many stolen. We sell most at $10. but it does bring people in to the shop.

However, I am not looking for this sort of thing (Golden Gate Bridge, movie posters, mass market stuff.) I am looking for new, trendy well priced art that appeals to college age students that is not in every other shop in every university area.

Kirstie: have you looked at Eyes on Walls? Current, youth-oriented, and somewhat ghastly. But holy smokes do they sell. We have a flush-mount special for $99 - Lora Zombie, Alex Cherry, and a few others. Nice price point, and an easy sell. And the PFs at $10.95 to keep the kids coming in, or to introduce them to art. And to keep the cash flow humming.

If you have walk-by, then you should be trying these. These artists were recruited from deviantart.com. We've even sold Lora Zombie limited editions. I just got an e-mail from Eyes, and they've got two new artists: "mydeadpony" has some good stuff.

In our area, we have two markets: the kids, and the older boomers who still buy art with glass.

Her two most popular

How about a Poster Design Contest.
Maybe hook up with the school's art department and host a show at your store.
Then go from there...

Or an Instagram Contest for the college students.
Best Instagram Image.. call it "My Campus"...

Eyes on Walls. That's the name I was trying to remember. Thanks! I can't relate to this stuff at all, so thanks for telling me which ones sell. I'll give a few a try.

That's the quote du jour. I can't figure it out at all, either.

The cat drinking coffee by "Hidden Moves" sells to everyone, and I have no idea why. But his stuff, and the other artists I mentioned, are big.

You'll be surprised at the sales - if you have school kids walking by, you'll be surprised.

Image Conscious, near you, has a connection to Eyes. They may have stock.

What I frame most for college students are posters they bring in from concerts. I don't know if you can buy them. They spare no expense when they fame them.

A quick search turned up many sites. Here is the first 2, for no reason other then they were first and second.

http://www.wholesaleconcertposters.com/

$3.50 a poster with 50 poster minimum

http://www.wholesalecentral.com/SearchResultsUnsorted.htm?Searchstr=Poster&sas=0&sRow=241&eRow=260

$3.25 each, mix and match quantity of 12.
