There is a famous portrait of Abraham Lincoln by George Peter Alexander Healy. Lincoln is sitting with his right hand to his chin. This is actually part of a larger painting that includes Grant, Sherman and Porter. I can’t seem to find the image of the larger painting.

Does anyone have any suggestions on where to look for prints of the larger image?

Thanks,
Linda

The commonly reproduced painting of Lincoln with his chin on his hand is a complete portrait, not part of one. Hoever, Healy did paint a grouping of the four people you describe, with Lincoln in a similar pose.

The original of the painting you are looking for is called "The Peacemakers" and hangs in the White House.

As far as I can tell, the only reproductions of it are in a book called "Art in the White House" which you can buy from the White House for 35.99 (order online at www.whitehouse.gov)

No one else seems to have it.
