This may belong in another category, and if so I apologize and request a moderator to relocate accordingly. Anyway, I was just curious to know how many of us on the forum are active in the visual arts? If so, what is your training, level of activity, etc?

For my part, I am a painter, BFA KCAI, but I'm not really very active. I came to framing by way of selling art materials for years, where we had a frame shop on premise. I'm always going back and forth between playing music and painting, and at the moment the music is the thing. Anyway, it occurs to me that we spend a lot of time handling other people's art and advising them, and I'm sure that our own familiarity with art materials and visual art vocabularies has some impact on the way we approach our work.

I have a BFA and am actively producing art. For years after college, I didn't paint or draw much. Then I started framing. The association with the art and artists rekindled the desire to paint, and I've had 2 careers ever since.

Hope you get back to painting.

YES............ JOIN OUR ART GROUP!!!!!!!!! LOL :D

I have an AAS in Photography from my local community college and a BFA in photography from the Corcoran. My last show was last year in photography. I have been painting for the past few years while on the road. I have yet to assemble the group for a show. I just closed my darkroom, have the stuff in storage. After my move I hope to have an new location for a darkroom.

Yes. When I was the manager of a shop I decided I was on the wrong side of the framing table. Now framing is only part of what I do, sometimes more than I like... I have a studio above the shop and paint when things get slow. I tell myself I am building inventory. I am open by appointment or chance only, so I can leave the shop if an opportunity arises. I also work as a freelance preparator for a variety of art museums within a 1 1/2 hour radius. This has been great for the shop too, as has joining local artist groups as a peer. That said, I do toy with the idea of opening full time retail and hiring help etc. and just may do it one of these days...

YES!!!! Tends to support my shelter, food, taxes habit :D . L. www.prism-studios.org (bear with me folks, just dragging out the addy for the new guy)

My background is advertising illustration & graphics, turned painter. I'm actively pursuing painting in oils & pastel, as well as starting to teach painting workshops. I've always framed my own work, but started doing it for the public about 5 years ago. I really do enjoy framing, but my real passion is painting!

It seems that music and art often go hand in hand. In this case it is relevent and viable. My BFA in fine art with an extended art major concentrations in color theory and painting including portraiture and 3d design. Minors in Music, Music Theory and German. I did 2 shows last year but only sold a few pieces all year. I too am 'building inventory'. I guess.
As to music, I am always on the lookout for others interested in jamming. I hope to get back on stage soon. I feel most comfortable there.

Artist / Framer

I have a BFA from the Maryland Institute College of Art in Baltimore, and consider myself an active artist, although I should be doing more of it. If business slows down any more I should have the time! I put a link on our new web site for my art, but have to add some more images.
