We just got in the shop a photo taken around the time of the Korean war, I'm guessing. It is one of those pictures where the image seems to move when viewed from different directions. Not the kind that the image changes from one thing to another, but the kind of three-D effect where the actual photo seems to rotate. It is accomplished by the photo appearing somewhat blurred, and having a finely ribbed piece of glass directly on it. It will have to be reframed with the glass once again right up against it, unless someone else has a better idea. The edges had been adhered to the glass (no surprise there) and the emulsion is stuck to the glass, but it doesn't show much when the glass is returned to its original position. Anyway, it is the first one I have ever seen (apart, anyway)...

Good gosh, I always wondered if those things had a real name...

I think I spent a whole sleepless night......

Sorry, lost my head there.

You lucky dog you, Ellen. Nuttin interesting for us this week... Might have to repair a 80 yr old German gaudy that's falling apart. [No smiley face here]

Thanks for the name. Everything has a name you know, (other than 'thingy') Some of my favorites are kerf, uvula and finial.

Here's one for you Ellen...

We used to call those "winky blinkies". It was an early attempt at three dimensional photography, without a special viewer.

I have also seen 3D polariods, which use the same principle, but with a much finer grid, and plastic, instead of glass. They are pretty cool!
