I am hoping someone can help me here.

I have had DSL installed on my 2nd phone/data line which I also use for the fax, credit card machine and it works great with the exception of the Outlook express - which I guess I don't have a very good handle on.

When I use my AOL (which I will be getting rid of eventually) the address book function is so easy to edit and use for send, send copy, blind copy, etc.

How do I get Outlook to work as easily with my DSL account(s) - or - is there another program that it can work through!?

Really appreciate input (I feel a training class needed here!)

Roz,
You can set up Outlook to use AOL as a Gateway for your mail. It doesn't always work, however even with dialup. Sometimes it won't connect, it may timeout etc. This has something to do with AOL's servers.

If you have DSL didn't you get a new ISP?

You can set the accounts in Outlook to use your new ISP with AOL on. But I'm still confused about you having DSL unless you got it through AOL.

Roz, Jerry's right. The DSL should come with it's own separate email account. Your ISP (Verizon or Qwest or whoever) should have supplied you with 4 pieces of info:

User name
Password
POP3 server address (for incoming mail)
SMTP server address (for outgoing mail)

Sometimes the two servers will be the same, but usually you'll see something like "pop3.isp.com" and "smtp.isp.com" (where "isp.com" is the name of your particular ISP).

When you setup Outlook Express, you just need to add a new mail account and put that information in the account setup (OE has a step-by-step process that's fairly simple).

Now, re-reading your post, if the actual problem is that you think Outlook Express is harder to use than AOL, then I think it's just a matter of getting past the learning curve. I've never used AOL so I don't know what additional features they offer over OE. You may want to try Netscape's mail client. I wouldn't be surprised if that's what AOL uses, due to the fact that AOL owns Netscape.

Good luck...

Steve, Jerry - Thanks for you input.... part of my problem is the learning curve on using Outlook than the DSL service/hookup. That is all done and working okay. I even have several DSL accounts for myself, business and husband's as well....

But using the Address book and contact lists has me baffled. Maybe this is more the software side of things!!!

I just played a little and found some ways to help me thru this (using the "Help" button helps - alot!)

Thanks, Roz

With the filters supplied by Qwest DSL or whomever you have for your phone line you should be able to use DSL on your regular phone.
WE have 3 computers on DSL and on our same main phone line. We have another line just for FAX and credit cards.
Qwest is not our server although they could have been if we wanted them. We have our regular server we have always had . Qwest just routes it thru them.
