Thought I should check with The Grumble before I spend whatever it is they are asking. Is it any good, is it worth the money in time saved, does it do all they claim?

John

If you have a chopper, get the Fillet Master and you too can run a "Free Fillet Sale" and yes, its that good. Once you get it dialed in.

Oh and don't drop it. "They" will all promise to send you some replacement black washer thingies.. but "they" don't. [it still works, you just have to file down the smoosched end and re-dial it in.]

I'm hoping that Fletcher will come out with a 'gizmo' to put on our current fillet cutters - that way we only have to buy the new measuring device - not a whole new unit. I asked them at the WCAF show and they referred me to another company. Unfortunately, due to time constraints I didn't make it to their booth. Guess I should call Fletcher and ask if they now know if it will ever 'fly'.

Sounds like a good idea, don't you think???

I saw the fillet master and fillet cutter at our local supplier. All together it was going to be around $800 for both if you got the extensions.

But it looks really good.

Same as Mike, we love using the fillet master with our (Jyden) chopper. Even though it takes space, no way will I part with the Jyden, which these days is used only for fillets, rabbetspace, and teeny tiny frames; the saw for everything else. The Jyden is so well made that it will be around for ever and I like knowing that I have a backup in the event of a problem with the saw.

Baer,
Try to get Flecher to send you whatever it is you need to fix your Fillet Master. If you don't have the parts in a reasonable time, call me at my frame shop 903-438-9555. This will get resolved! PS. To all of you that say nice things about the Fillet Master, thanks.

Been using the FilletMaster almost since it first came out. Love love love it.

If I were just starting, I'd get the FilletMaster along with the new Fletcher fillet chopper.

When I was teaching new framers how to cut and fit fillets the old way pre-FilletMaster, it was an afternoon of drudgery, frustration and occasional tears. I taught two newbies today how to use the FilletMaster and they both had theirs measured and cut within five minutes. After doing two or three more they'll be able to get that down to two minutes.

Worth every penny and pays for itself after just a few fillets.

I sold my Morso chopper that I had for many years. The shop I am in now is only half a block from the ocean, the poor thing was just rusting away on me. The few times I did use it, I had rust all over everything, so I got rid of it.

I appreciate the input and will place my order for the whole shebang on Monday.

I just read the thread Mike posted, now I'm really sold.

Thanks,

John

Jerry, it's not that it doesn't work anymore... just the oppasite.. it works better.. the owners husband is now afraid to touch it... :D

I was kind of looking today about soldering up some bushings then grinding down the flange to make it work. 'Course I'll have to ream out the slide slots.. do you think it would effect the measurement any if the slot gets blown out to accomidate a 1/2" bolt and bushing?

Baer,
I'm not sure what the problem is but it sounds like you intend to put more work into modifying the thing than I put into inventing it. My first suggestion would be to order a $2 or $3 replacement bushing, but if you do modify your unit, be sure that the top and bottom plates stay parallel. Also, make sure that whatever bolt you use allows the SLIDE to pass over it. If you would like, call the number I gave you Monday and I'll see if I can help. Our hours are 10-5.

Just thought of something, who exactly do you order these things from? I have an open account with Fletcher ( I use their CMC 6100) Fletcher or a distributor?

John

John Baker,

You can order your F-6100 blades directly through Fletcher-Terry, however other framing products like the Fillet Master, F-3000, FrameMaster point drivers, etc. can only be ordered through Fletcher-Terry distributors.

John's observation about his rusting chopper illustrates an important point: if you can see the
sea, you are in salt fog= salt in the air. This is
important to remember when corrosion sensitive materials are being stored or displayed.

And to think that I endorsed you as an approved PPFA Judge....scary, huh? :D
