I was hoping this would be my year to go but it didn't turn out that way. =( Wish I could be eating chinese in Vegas tonight.....

Anyone at the show on twitter? If so, could you tweet anything you think about it with the tag #WCAF09?

It would be a great way for those of us at home to gain some insights into this years show.
It worked for the #inaug09. (in under a 140 characters or less)

btw, if anyone wants a follow, http://twitter.com/MaryFramer.

I don't want to know what twitter or tweeting is, but I just got back from my 36-hour trip to Vegas. During my time there, I saw Baer, EllenatHowards, Colleen Kennedy, Pat Kotnour, Mike Labbe, FramerDave, and Rob Markoff.

Compared to last year, as expected there were fewer vendors. In particular, I noticed far fewer sellers of that junky Chinese oil painting stuff. There did seem to be alot of folks walking the floor, which was encouraging.

I only attended one class, which was Heidi Knodle's class on building consumer demand for fine framing (i.e., closed corner frames). It was PACKED. There was a lot of interest in building up this part of the market. The economy being what it is, the lower end of the market has pretty much evaporated for many of us. If someone doesn't have a lot of money, and times are tight, they aren't going to spend it on framing. So there's still opportunity to sell framing to people who are better off.

As expected, there are deals to be had. Some of the closed corner vendors have really good sample packages for people looking to get into that market. For example, Rhonda Feinman can set you up with 10 drawing frames for only $150...for the set. That's a no-brainer. Conventional moulding vendors are offering attractive deals too. Even if you can't make it to the show, it's worth seeing if some of your normal suppliers can extend their show specials to you.
