I've just started looking at handheld Inkjet printers; you know Boys, Toys, et all. Besides just wanting another toy, I see some uses for it in my shop. Since I am shipping only and use tons of boxes, I see many uses for it there. And probably lots of other places. I print a lot of labels for various things I want to communicate with a buyer. This would allow me to do some things a bit differently. I have a lot of work to do researching what's available so I won't be pulling the plug on one real soon so I thought I would see if anyone else has looked at one of these. The video below is just one of many available.

Hmm....could this be a tool for adding text or images to decorate mats?
Would like to find out what the actual longevity of the inks are.
Probably not equivalent to pigmented inks used for photo and fine art printing.

A preliminary 5 second Giggle search of an Umazon listing ...
  • Wide Applications: BT-2580P ink cartridge is solvent ink and dries in seconds. Can attach to water absorbing materials and non-porous surfaces, including: carton, wood, paper, clothes, gypsum board, fiberboard, plastic, ceramic, glass, metal, aluminum foil, etc.
  • Excellent Print Quality: The ink cartridge for v4ink Bentsai handheld inkjet printer use patented ink formula to deliver high quality prints with waterproof and smudge-free effects. Ink is quick drying in seconds.
Here's a bit more info.

This is seeming like something for those who like "bleeding Edge" type stuff. The more I'm looking at this, the less I'm finding out.

I tried to do a deep dive on one that I've seen advertised a lot. The have some fancy ads and a few videos on site. I decided to read its manual.

No manual.
No customer support to ask about a manual
No tech support page.
No customer support page.
No link to contact customer support.
Major Bummer.

Most of the rest appear to be more of the same; Chinese companies with semi slick videos that gloss over the details and with little or no customer or technical support. maybe I will find more bit it ain't looking good so far.

Just checked a few more and more disappointments. The next couple I check don't even have a web site. Or at least I couldn't find one. You know something is suspect when among the top search results are Walmart, Alibaba and AliExpress.

It says "Print on any surface"
I see so many bad uses coming soon.
First thoughts are print on human or other skin.

The $500+ one will be $150- tomorrow. Bide your time and let the market weed it out for you.

I see the limiting factor of the devise is that you will need a track of some sort to keep the devise steady as it prints. How many times was the video shot for the perfect application of the graphic? Videos always make a complex process look perfect and simple.

As for the ink - "solvent based ink" just says that it is not "water based". Thus most likely dye based ink as it is cheaper to manufacture.

Speaking of boys & toys, anything to report on the mini-laser?
like you, more interested in actual user feedback
scheduled for $2200 rebuild next month
