Signature looks like Hatie R. Sudol Hartley R. Sudol?

At a glance that looks very much like a canvas-mounted lithgraphic print. If it is a painting, it's very formulaic. Don't think the artist ever achieved great fame.

Could be wrong. Often am.

There are no "Sudol's" listed in my reference books.

How about contacting the archivists at a few
colleges in Georgia and asking if they know anything
about such a painter. Perhaps local historical societies
would be another place to check with. Or does it come
from a place other than Georgia? Oftentimes, there
might be a regionally well-known artist who is anonymous
anywhere else.

A quick search of 411.com for Sudols in Georgia yields
eight of them. If all else fails, you could call them and ask
if they knew of a grandparent or great grandparent who
painted.

One of my favorite singers hails from Georgia.
Alison Sudol sings for the group 'A Fine Frenzy',
and I could listen to her all day long.

I tried googling all combinations / variations. even Sudot, nothing came up.

I think the first name is MARLA...... It was not uncommon for women in finishing schools to be trained artists 100 years ago.

The name is Martin R. Sudol
It is on the back of the canvas underneath the layer of canvas the original had been sewn to.

If you look closely on the right side you can see the stitches.
