I am looking at getting a few boxes of moulding from Michelangelo. I have never bought from them before. What is there quality of product like? I see some really good pricing on specials and such but was wonder what there product was like. Anyone have any input?

I've used a number of Michelangelo mouldings here. On the whole, I haven't had too many problems with their product; at least no more than other framing companies. Sometimes there will be twisted/warped moulding, sometimes the finish is not quite perfect. I've never purchased a box of moulding - I just buy length from my local framing distributor as I need, so I can't comment on the quality of the moulding for a whole box. The price point is quite good.

It can be hard to use up left-over 'black' finished moulding with a new length because the 'black' colour can differ - more or less gloss/darker or lighter black. I haven't really noticed this inconsistency too much with other profiles.

Another thing to be aware of is back-order issues. Although, this has only happened to me once in the 5 years that I've been buying Michelangelo moulding, it was bad timing. There are a few black profiles that I use fairly often and they became back-ordered just prior to Christmas one year and took a long time to come in (3 months if I remember correctly). Yes, I know I should have planned ahead and had some in stock, but up until that point I never had a back-order issue with their product. I know better now.

Sixty some views and only one response gives me the impression that fellow grumblers aren't enthused either way about Michelangelo.

His David was an absolute feat of amazing control..... seeing how it was the second time he had to carve the dumb thing.

Don't mind me.... I had to grow up with a living breathing version of it. At 16 my brother looked exactly like him/it what ever.

Moulding company? Really.... wow.. the hubis of it all.

Kyle, I believe Michelangelo is a Canadian company who has just recently started distributing in the U.S. (but I could be mistaken), so perhaps not a lot of American framers are aware of or used this line of moulding. That being said, there are other Canadian framers on the Grumble, but maybe they've never used Michelangelo moulding. It would be nice for you to get some more concrete opinions rather than having to come to a conclusion based on # of views/lack of responses ;)

I've heard of them, but never seen their product. However on Saturday I am going to a warehouse sale at a local distributor, and they are introducing Mich. mouldings. So I'll soon see at least part of what they offer.
