Any ideas on hanging a bulletin board without a frame?

I have a custoemr who wants to hang a rather large(36x48) bulletin board without using a frame. We are covering it with fabric. She is looking for a simple look. So, any ideas on what to use as hangers? My thought was to use Wall Buddies and I htink the depth on the bulletin board is deep enough to accept screws but I obviously, the screws will not hold. Any thoughts, I need it tomorrow and my mind just isn't working......

I too think velcro. Velcro was invented with do-it-yourself customer like that in mind.

I'm kidding kathy. In reality it was meant for hanging corner samples.
;)

Why do people ask framers for advice on how to do things without frames?

That's like . . .

Oh, I don't know. It's like something equally silly.

Because framers can do anything!

Well we do know how to hang things...right?

I'd add a supporting frame of wood stripping - something like 1/2" x 3/4" parting stop cut a couple of inches shy of the bulletin board size.

Glue that to the back of the cork board with titebond or corner weld, throw a case of glass on it to give you good bond pressure then put your wall buddies on the stripping.

The bulletin board will float off the wall a bit but its a look

Okay, first off, when I pull up my top customers in my database she is in the top 10.......I have actually framed 3 other bulletin boards for her in the past but for some reason she doesn't want this one in a frame. So, I am just trying to find a reasonable hanging possibility.

I had an "ah-ha" moment while ruminating over this tonight and I came up with the perfect solution. I will suggest she use those plastic mirror holders. They seem perfect because I don't have to worry about glue peeling away from the surface which is fairly brittle.

Thanks for the other ideas, they will be filed away in my brain for future use.

What's going on with our customers? I have 3 Bulletin boards in house right now! One corkboard and 2 that the customer wants to use homosote.

BTW I bought a cork bulletin board at a nameless "craft store" and it was pure junk! Where did the quality and craftmanship in our culture go? I'm not wanting all products to be built by a Stickley or a Hancock, Revere or Tiffany, but why does it all look like it was built in a basement as a 4th grade woodshop project?

Actually, it all looks like it was built in a slave labor factory in China.

Where did the quality and craftmanship in our culture go?

Wal Mart convinced us we could not afford it. Instead, we buy the same thing for half the cost half a dozen times. Works for Wal Mart, and most people think they're saving money.

I buy the cork on a roll, vacuum mount it to 3/16 speedmount foamboard, then frame it, add backing and wire. Sorry this is off the initial post but it works great and is cheaper than buying a bulletin board.

Well, the problem took care of itself. My customer came in on Saturday and I explained her options for hanging and she goes "Well, why don't I just frame it then?" She was going for a minimalist look and we found her a minimalist frame and she seems happy. I'm not sure where she got off track on not wanting to frame this one, sometimes I think we just get an idea in our head.....

All this talk of bulletin boards reminds me of plans I had to make some a couple of years ago with old aprons and floursack material to cover them. Another idea just waiting to happen.....
