Just moving premises, can't afford a wall mounted glass cutter, has anyone got a design for one that I could make.

I have some ideas myself but any help or ideas would be useful.

Many thanks

Steve

I hear your situation! However, I think the BEST $$$ I ever spent on my biz was that cutter!........you CAN, & some still do, cut glass by hand but you need a SOLID FLAT easily accessed from ALL sides(or non marring surface to allow moving the glass), long enough straight edge, gooood handheld cutter(I recommend the fletcher green single heads--stay sharp for a good long time).. all this and alot of luck and you are in biz. BUT glass has it's own agenda and will break or deviate from the score line ---JUST BECAUSE! Truly, my blood pressure went down 80 points when I started using one!!! you buy uesd--check out the squareness BEFORE you take it!!! that can be a real PIA

Hi Bill

Thanks for the advice, I have been looking at a Fletcher from a local artist who doesn't use it enough, he has started using me recently and it seems it may be coming my way at a price I can afford, thanks for the tip about checking the square.

Much appreciated advice.

There are still some shops that cut glass on a flat table with just a carpenters square ( they also have a glass cutting square) and a $3 green hand held glass cutter. I used to draw a couple of lines (drawn at a 90° angle) on a craft paper covered table, lock my wrists, walk backwards and cut without a straight edge, just following the line. Another technique was to place the glass in the rabbit of a frame and follow the apposing rabbit edge using the same process.

Talk to the artist. Offer to cut glass as often as s/he needs it. The price'll go down when the artist realizes s/he can afford himself the benefits of the machine without the headache of buying cases of glass.

Hi Bob

Done just that, doesn't seem to be a problem, he's just working out a price now.

Looking forward to it, new toy, YEHHHHHHHH :D

There is something to be said about that old school process of the line on the paper. I used to do that and have known many that learned that way as well. I wouldnt trade the wall cutter for anything but it's good to know I and others have the skill to free cut glass. .. :icon11:
