You might want to call your bank or credit card processor in advance, and go over how you can protect yourself in the event this guy is using a bogus card or card number. It does have a whiff of scam about it, so I would refuse checks and traveler checks, and I would also refuse to accept a credit card over the phone. Cash would be best, of course, but it's a bit unreasonable if this is legit.

Did you ask what the frames were for? Everything is so specific, maybe it's for signage displays for some kind of retail or commercial space, where they need to change the signage frequently.

PLEEEEEESE!

You have to be kidding me that this even has a chance at being legit!!

Scam.

But if you are ever unsure about whether something is a scam or not, ask for payment up front (even partial will do), get their credit card info, and call the issuing bank's fraud department. They'll tell you quickly if the card is legitimate or not.

This particular scam has been around for over a year now. The number of frames or the color of the frames changes from time to time. I started receiving similar emails Nov. 2008 from "Cheri Rice" who initiated the contact through a telephone translation service for the deaf. "Be afraid. Be very afraid" of falling for anything out of the ordinary.

A few of the things that send the scam meter off it's guage:

1. Bad english
2. He doesn't answer all your questions
3. He wants to give you a credit card to pay in advance, but is picking up the order
4. No question about the price
5. Bad english

While that may be true, one thing that might throw off the casual observer is the detail with which the product is specified:
  • Standard size (22x28) rather than 30x30
  • Specifies moulding by name (Nielsen)
  • Asks for plexi, foamcore, wire, and hook

This is much more detailed than the usual request for "shinny gold" frames, which *might* lead one to believe it's a real live customer on the other end.

OTOH, all the rest of the hallmarks of the scam are there too...

Puh-leeeze!!! Of course it's a scam. It even quacks like a scam!

How many times does this have to be posted to the G for it to sink in that these things are scams!

Forgive me for this but I'm going to be the angry person here and give it to you...
It's not like you are a newbie here. I'm sure you have read the numerous posts about this and yet you still responded to it, and even kept it going and now you think it might be a scam??
He knows Nielsen frosted silver and that gave you pause to think it might be for real? Really? If so, then you might just be the person these scams are fishing for. Of all the frame shops out there, he decided to blindly buy 60 frames packages from you thru an email and that didn't make you suspicious and just delete it?

I know business might be slow for alot of framers but don't be so desperate for money that you end up hoping beyond reality that this one might be for real and then you get seriously burned.

Please... stop being so trusting in your business. You might actually get scammed.
This spanking is for your own good. Don't think i'm enjoying having to spank you like this. ..it's hurting me more than you.

It feels like scam. But it's a bit more advanced and worked out than the ones I get.

First asking about the price for one. Then a larger quantity. More detailed information, this person knows exactly what he's looking for. Size is more reasonable. Maybe the scammers read the G more carefully now????

If you feel you need to reply, tell him that you will need payment up front. Delivery will be in 3 weeks. If paying by check; check will need to clear first, which will add an additional 2 weeks to delivery time. For credit card payments; you can easily check with bank in advance, plus you won't order the material until payment is really in the bank. No matter what; request payment in advance, and if he can pick up the frames, he can come by to pay in person.

How did he find you? Why you? Where is he from? Just the fact that his english is bad, doesn't mean it's scam. You should see my emails when I first moved here.... :icon19:

A San Diego framer bit on this scam. He thought he could outwit the scammer by getting his money, then closing his bank account. He ended up in court with the credit card processor. I don't know the full details, however, I will guarantee you, you will lose on this deal. DO NOT DO IT!

Tell them a Nigerian princess-in-exile just sent you ***$17500000*** (SEVENTENN MILLIUN-FIVEHUNDID THOUSUND-DOLARS) and you are no longer in the picture framing business.

"Cautiously" ????

I've gotten a few of these e-mails lately. I've got no clue what they mean, but for sure I ain't-a gonna click on the link.

Our company is thought to make for you the best service. Welcome Here you will find and will see about what others do not speak are silent! All is made for you.

The domain looks to be from Canada, but I'm not aboot to find out.

I. Welcome Here you will find and will see about what others do not speak are silent! All is made for you.

That sounds to me like a Chinese philosopher is at work.....;)

They forgot to add...."If 150 32x40 acid free mats are cut in the forest (bottom weighted), will anybody hear it because of loud silence? Or pay for it with Visa because of empty people??"

A couple things make me wonder about it. He's asking for more of your contact information. I just took a look at your website and I see your phone numbers and your address. And actually the one thing I didn't notice is your email address. How did he get that and not know your other info.

Plus the fact that you asked him for more of his info, and he didn't give it to you. (where's the smiley that's a big red flag?)

I got this scammail yesterday.
