I'm doing an animation cel re-hinging and mat replacement. The top layer of the cel had slipped out of place when my customer brought it to me so I'm questioning the proper alignment of the piece. If I line up the outer edges of each layer of the cel, it looks funny. If I line up the images with one another -- how I think it looks best -- the outer edges are totally out of whack. Does this happen?? I talked to my customer about it over the phone and she has no idea. We ended it with me doing whatever I thought looked best. It's been a while since I've done a cel and I don't ever recall the outer edges being so unaligned.

I wish I had my camera with me -- I'd post pictures to help.

Yes, sometimes the edges can be quite out of alignment. Sometimes they have holes punched in the cel where they fit into the 'holder' (I don't know what the proper name for it is) when the pictures are taken of them for the movie. But then sometimes those get cut off somewhere along the way.
