PFG, Picture Framing God
A woman calls about 5:00pm... says she is only 5 minutes away and can we mount a poster for her right away. We need to see it, we say. She comes in. Does she want it mounted? NO! She wants it FRAMED! By 6:00! She has brought in corner samples of the mat she wants to use (wonder where she got those?) (We have Crescents in stock, and so is the sample...no problem. However, the Piece is 39.5" high. I tell her she will only see 1/4" of the mat. Really? she says, OK, forget the mat. Do you have a wide black kind of contemporary moulding? I tell her that if she wants One Hour Framing, she has her choice of 4 mouldings- 2 metals and 2 black woods. Noooo, none of those... I tell her, Look. Instant Framing isn't going to look that good. We are compromising in too many places here... The poster is wrinkled, it should be drymounted, it is going to not look like she wants it to. Why not give a gift certificate for framing and just give the Birthday Boy the poster? Ohhh...! But does she go for that? NO! She has to go talk to Mommy and bye bye. I smell a Big Rat here, and am still congratulating myself for walking away. What do you supppose was REALLY going on?
