Retired, work from home shop
After seeing Oliver Framed I couldn't resist putting up my cat and her frame. She's an Oriental Shorthair and really just provided the inspiration for my wife, Diane to create this painting. I designed the carve pattern as I really like intertwining designs. I gilded it with 22 karat gold leaf after taking a workshop from Barbara Carter at the Scottsdale Artist School.

Thanks all, retirement from teaching has opened up the time to pursue these wonderful things --- how the heck I ever had time to work is beyond me! Appreciate the kind words.

Hey Baer, good to hear from you and that you like my work. Always evolving. Sorry if I don't respond to comments from you or others but for some reason I can't get the settings to stay put for my instant notification and Lord knows I've tried. You're in the Portland area aren't you?

Yes.

John, if you wanted to tone down the gold gently, warm up some bee's wax and blend with a touch of the brown bree wax..... and rub on warm. I think you will like the effect of it highlighting your carving, and toning for the cat.

Very nice job, John!

Baer, I just might try that. I'm getting set to gild another one and will make up a piece to experiment with. The Ali painting is currently hanging in the OPA show in Scottsdale and with any luck, Diane will get a check instead of the painting returned to her. Not much of that with the economy the way it is now. Thanks for the tip!
