Hi, I have posted this question on another picture framing forum.

Since posting there I am now thinking this is a general mitre saw measuring question rather than a specific problem with mine.

I have just acquired a second have Alfamacchine T350 double mitre saw. When I set the length of the wood I want using the measurement scale it bears no apparent relation to the actual length of wood cut.

There is no calibration adjustment on the scale which is puzzling.

I am cutting stretcher bars for stretching canvas so am interested in the overall length of the piece cut. I am sure picture framers are more interested in the inside length as they are trying to make a frame to fit glass and backboard.

If I set the measurement to 200mm the actual length cut is 234mm. If I measure the width of the moulding this is 34mm. Is this where the error is coming from or a coincidence?

I have a foot operated chopper too (not a morso but a similar sort of thing) and if I set it to 12" (this is only imperial as it's old) then the moulding I cut off is actually 12" as I would expect.

This is really confusing me now. Why would one machine cut longer but another one cut exact. (EDIT: I have just realised that the double mitre saw has the measurment scale away from you and the foot operated chopper had the scale close to you so that accounts for why they measure differently. Am I resigned then to have to measure the width of each moulding I use then subtract that from the length I measure? There must be a simpler way)

When I assembled the double mitre saw it was just a simple case of bolting on the extension arm and then the extension to the rear support. There is no adjustment at all on either of these.

Up until now I have been using either pre-cut lengths or measuring each piece and using a cheap mitre saw.

I must be missing something really obvious here.

Any help will be greatly appreciated.

14mm is about 1/2" if I'm correct. It sounds like a setup issue. Is there some type of "stopper" on the outfeed or are you just eyeballing.
A picture may help.
