In the spirit of Framing Fashionista's spray painted frame, here's one of mine. The customer wanted a white frame, but they also wanted it to be very ornate with a deep scoop. I wasn't coming up with anything in the catalogs, so I proposed we refinish LJ's Goya 899 profile, which is a black rubbed finish. I also happened to have some of that on hand, so I felt like experimenting. Basically, I spray painted primer and silver paint, applied a crackle finish with white, and added some silver rub n buff. The husband came to pick it up and he liked it.

Now, my photo isn't the greatest quality. It's a little blurry and the downward angle makes it look like her head is crammed up close to the top, which it isn't. It's also more crackled that in appears here, but oh well. Was it effective?

And if there are any "disgrace to the industry" opinions out there, I do welcome them if accompanied by a recommendation on where I can get a very white very ornate frame at least 4" wide with a deep scoop. Actually, I would appreciate those recommendations anyway on account of I don't know if this is a huge hit or not and it may come up again.

It's not really a readymade :) That's my joinery. It's a throwback title.

Great product for crackle finish!!!

Get some decoart one step crackle finish.Great stuff. It is put on AFTER your final color coat, allow to dry...It cracks as it dries and creates a nice hard finish...Now paint on the color you want in the cracks and buff away the excess paint.Cool! Only problem...It only coms in a 2oz size.I emailed to see if I could buy in bulk.We shall see! L.(BTW,Your refinish looks GREAT...Got lost in crackle porn....)

A while ago, I was playing with acrylic paints on this gallery frame by Omega. Didn't know what to do with it (mirror most likely) so every once in a while, I would bring it upstairs and leave it leaning against a wall. A restaurant owner saw the potential and bought it.

I may have to do another!

All look great, but Julie, that is so ugly that it is wonderful.

I think it's just wonderful-wonderful. But I like color. It makes me want to pick out a frame like that and do it up with a mirror for my house. It makes me think of Alice in Wonderland.

You are both right! Granted it's not for everyone....but then you just need that one customer looking for that special item.

I was thinking of a mirror, or painting a very excentric looking portrait. I do have about four more downstairs; maybe a New Years project.

I love colour...must have it all around
