Any of you drink wine? The covering at the top of the bottle, called the capsule, often has in interesting design. If you cut the top of the capsule off carefully, you get what looks like a little coin. Certain prints I'm making could be nicely augmented by these little "coins", but I'm not exactly sure how to affix them to the prints in a manner more conducive to longevity than using hot glue, so I thought I'd ask here.

One thing to consider is that the severed capsule is hollow by about 1/8", and I don't want to crush them. What's the collective wisdom on how to attach these things to a print?

A small glob of acrylic gel medium might act as a nice glue, and one that won't bleed or discolor with time. It's the Grumblers' "official" archival substitute for the dreaded silicone.
I would experiment to see how well it sticks to the underside of the "capsules".

Doc -
How about cutting a circle from 1/8" foamcore to insert into the "coin" & attach w/ a little silicon. I would then cut a circle into your mat and drop the "coin" into a sink mat attach to the backing of the sink mat (not to the print) w/ hot glue or even the "dreaded" silicon. I think in this type of application silicon would be acceptable.

if the little 'coin' is metal, than for a metal to paper bond, how about JB Weld, a metal epoxy.

You can get at a scrapbooking store a sort of glue from Pioneer that is made specifically for bonding metal to paper. Oh, yes, Howard's sells it too...

Direct gluing can lead to failure of the bond
or damage to the paper during transit. If there is
space under the metal, you might be able to use
Velcro, which would allow for removal of the metal during transit or storage and later re-
attachment.

I was thinking about putting a layer or two of matboard under the capsule to reinforce the shape. I'd like to avoid a fixative that will leach acid into the paper and cause off colors. In case I wasn't clear earlier, the capsules would be affixed directly to the print intself, not to the matting.
