just another 'strange' request for framing..... 2 boxing gloves..1 as cassius clay and the other muhamid ali(dont know if they are the same set of gloves). many years apart, of course! I think owner may also be putting 'some' pics in also...my problem is how to display/attach both gloves while being able to read the signatures &, of course, retain a presentable display .. my luck one will be signed on back, the other on the palm!!!! I'm really coming up empty on ideas for this...I concure that it'd be real nice to actually have SEEN the items..only have owner sketchy description, but this was an impulse/dropin and some of our sports stuff really got him going. Any way...anyone done boxing gloves recently??? would love to hear/see ... thanks for data

Sure, we've done boxing gloves. Riddick Bowe's attorney was a client. They were easy. Signed on the 'back' I guess you'd say, and so we just attached through the laces on the palms. There were pics too, which we just did as regular openings.

I framed one last month, signed by our local boy-wonder boxer, Buster Douglas. Remember him? His was a real life "Rocky" story -- nobody expected him to win, but he did. Then everybody expected him to keep winning, and he didn't.

Anyway, there was a flap of leather covering the laces. We simply made a clear film strap the width of the flap (about 4" I guess) and that held the glove perfectly in place.

You can put a couple of Rare Earth Magnets inside the gloves, and attach magnets to the back of the back mat. In case you aren't familiar with rare earth magnets, I'll tell you they are incredibly strong. You can get them from Lee Valley Tools.

That's my favorite supplier for them, too.

Beware -- the magnets may strong enough to hold the weight, but they will not keep the item from slipping. You'll still need to retain it somehow. Otherwise, if there's an impact, the glove might slide enough to overpower the magnetic attraction, and fall away.

Ask me how I know that.
