I have an advertising dilemma. I advertise on the radio and in the newspaper.

I am always scratching my head about content. I do not want to sell frames at 50% off and haven't. Most ads feature some project we have done and/or suggest a shadow box... digital imaging... conservation framing... unique mat cuts with our "computerized mat cutter"...... with an occasional $xxx off on xxx or free second mat thrown in the mix.

Suggestions as to what works for others?

Hey Jeanne...................My new radio add says that we are a drop off for our local food pantry!!! Thats bringing people in!!

Find a niche .....something unique...........feature an employee in the add.........or get some testimonials..............my mailman did mine LOL.............:D Good luck

Regards radio advertising

What works for me is hardly mentioning what we do at all!

Our two most successful radio ads are

1. Alien spaceship - young alien wants to destroy the planet, older/wiser alien takes a peek with the 'observation module' first and sees our place (younger alien giving it 'now can we destroy it oh great one' here and there) ends up deciding they cannot destroy a planet with such a wonderful shop. Big superhero voice-over about us saving the planet.

2. I once sent a script for an ad in to the station saying "........... and the best framing service in the area" and was told I could not say we were 'the best' - it's the law! So, my radio ad was a take on that conversation. Starts with a phone ringing - radio station picks up "Spirit FM" and then "Hello - Angmering Framing here - I want to make a radio ad - all I want to say is 'Angmering Framing - the best framing service in Sussex' ...."

Conversation ensues, them saying I can't say I'm the best, me asking why, as, if no-one else does all the things we do, we must be the best.

One woman came in the shop one day and told us that whenever the aliens ad came on her 2 young daughters act it out, always arguing over who gets the best part - the young alien!

Everyone relates to the 'the best' advert too, as there is a famous series of TV adverts over here for Carlsberg lager - which always ends with 'Probably the best lager in the world'

Jeanne, I understand why you thought this should be in business.... but right now, I think this is just as import to all frame shops as how to mount a Henweigh. Just leave it here.

John, are they up on YouTube yet? Talk about virial, then those two kids could go to it anytime. :D
