Looking for recommendations for an adhesive that will attach feathers to matboar, without looking flat, just small points of contact. This is a NON-CONSERVATION Job.

Thanks

I`ll probably get flamed for this......I run a TINY stip of hotmelt down the quill of the feather:party:. This is the only method that gets me the look I want-FLAT,and immovable.strapping,etc. not so good for me!Of course this is a single, heavily painted, large feather...For the smaller fluffier type,I suppose you could sew them down, with the thread around the quill. I had to include a feather quill pen in a shadowbox and used small dots of CornerWeld. It worked very nicely. However, if the positioning of the feather will allow it, a melinex strap passed through a slot behind the shaft would be preferable, and reversible. The one I did required the item to be at an odd upward angle that precluded strap mounting.

Even though this is not a preservation job, starch paste is a great alternative, for applications like this, since if it winds up exposed, around the feather, it will be invisible.

non preservation.....use super glue..real small dot in couple of places.

I personally(again,I`ll probably get a good flaming) think that feathers wouldn`t be affected by acids the way paper is.They are VERY durable. The last part of a dead bird to decompose, other than bone is the feathers. Also bird droppings are VERY acidic and birds do get it on their feathers occaisonally.I`m way more concerned with sealing the piece against mites, and other "micro critters" that will eat the feathers relatively quickly, ruining them!!The painted feathers are clearcoated,so hopefully not very tasty...but unprotected ones should be sealed up in the package. If you have any concerns about the feathers being exposed to critters, and possibly harbouring some, store the feathers in the freezer until needed. I just don't trust adhesives in direct contact. I would use a clear film strap or two. Aside from being non-invasive, low-risk, and reversible, I know it would not fail later.

These are the dyed chicken (or other) feathers that one gets in craft stores? I've used these for costumes, and stitching works well - they only need a couple of tacks to set them down. Perhaps attach-ez would work as well.

I have framed a good number of feathers, Kiwi feathers included. A small cotton loop over the kwill is more than enough and make them very easy to position.
