Acrylic sandwich... how big can you go?

Aside from using acrylic in a traditional frame, I've not done anything else with it. I have an photographer putting up an exhibit and he doesn't want traditional frames, he wants an acrylic sandwich. The prints themselves I'm guessing will be 32"x48" or possibly 24"x64". I explained the potential for dust and critters to get into a sandwich type of frame but the installation is temporary (1 month) so he's not concerned about that.

I did some research here and it seems that if the maximum distance you want between standoffs is 24", if the distance is greater than that, then additional hardware is recommended to reinforce the sandwich. That said... how big is practical? I obviously can't stick hardware in the middle of the print.

Finally, this may be something I want to bow out of. If so is there anyone in the Boston, MA area who can pull it off?

Cheers, Joe

You can make a sandwich frame as large as the size of acrylic you can locate. Generally it just requires more holes along the sides to hole the two pieces together. We have done VERY large sandwich frames.

Is acrylic face mounting out of the question?
This would look much better and eliminate the possibility of insects, dust and other particles getting between the sheets of acrylic!
