My name is Greg Kimsey. My wife, Gail, and I own a business called The Art-Full Barn in Clarkesville Georgia. Art-Full Frames is a part of that umbrella business. We have the largest art supply selection between Atlanta and Greenville SC. We began business 10 years ago in a barn which was built in 1927, which led to the name since the barn was full of art. I was doing artwork and teaching classes in the beginning. I began framing my own art to save money. People kept asking me to frame theirs as well, so I did. It began simply, and escalated into a real job. I have a Wizard, which was Gail's idea and I am so glad she suggested it. We bought a Drytac vacuum press next, along with a Cassesse chopper and underpinner. I also use a DeWalt 12" mitre saw for things that don't chop well. I strive to do only top notch, conservation framing. I steer customers away from inferior practices and materials. I don't even offer products that aren't acid free. We are currently in a renovated textile mill (four years now) but have very recently bought the barn and hope to be moved into it again by December.

I stopped doing artwork about two years ago. I got disgusted with it. Fortunately I still absolutely love framing, it is by far the best and most rewarding job I have ever had. It's hardly even a job and I would do it for free if I had another way of making money. Unfortunately I have to have some way of funding my saltwater reefing habit. I have a 375 gallon reef tank built into the wall in our living room. I have an entire room dedicated to it's care with tons of support equipment. It is a very expensive hobby so I actually have to charge for my framing!

Well that's a little about me and Gail. We have been married for 25 years this past July. We have two children. Tonya is 23 and is an art education major at a local university and is scheduled to graduate this year. Christoper (21) is a partner in our business but would like to open his own video game store. Earlier this year Chris bought our old house (the one he and Tonya grew up in) and Gail and I bought a new one. We love being on our own again. More later if you want to hear it...

Welcome to the fun house Greg!!!!! :D

Welcome, and that's a splendid reef tank! I used to keep saltwater fish, but I flushed more fish than...well, you know how it is. But when you flush a $300 fish down the toilet, it really hurts.

So far I haven't spent $300 on a single fish, $80 is the most expensive one I have. BUT!!, I just spent $91 on a magnetic algae scraper...it should be here tomorrow. The total project has set me back about $12,000. Can you say..."Insanity"

now you see why I have to charge for framing.

Ok NOW I'm jealous..................................:p
Cool Fish!!!

Greg,

When you told me about your fish tank yesterday I had no idea it would have been that big.

Looks great

By the way, the picture under my login name is my 22 month old grandson.

Welcome to the Grumble, although I really honestly believe you should be working for an aquarium - holy cow! I never even knew anyone could make a "reef tank."

Amazing.

Does anything live in the blue vase?????

Not anymore. I had a pink spot goby named Shrek who lived in there until he got too big. Here is Shrek...

It truly is a passion of mine and if I thought I could make a living doing something in the aquarium business I would certainly be doing it. If I could have a frameshop with a fish business on the side I would be in paradise.

COOL FISH!!!! Ever try underwater themed art? May not get disgusted with THAT!!!! Just sayin.:D L.( www.prism-studios.org or for (Tah Dah) underwater themed strangenes in Holiday decor its.... www.decemberdiamonds.com I design the stuff....)

Hi Greg, and welcome to the Grumble! Those pictures of your tank are great! Anytime you want to share them, we'd be happy to see more. :popc:

WOW! I've always wanted to have a little round black room, with salt tanks for walls and bathtub in the middle. That is truly beautiful.

Thanks everybody!

Luddite- I have thought of doing reef art but when I stopped actively producing art there was such a weight lifted off of me I actually got happy...without drugs or alcohol. I'm almost afraid to pick up a brush for fear of losing this feeling. Frustration and depression are not fun!..happy and relaxed is way better.

Nancy- that is the same kind of fish as Nemo...but his name is Bobo.

Hey! I feel sorry for your poor, lonely cardinal. He SHOULD be in a school where he doesn't feel so EXPOSED! And I don't see an apropriate anemone in sight for that sad clown fish!

Good for you that your inverts are so healthy. Do you have nudibranches or shrimps in that huge tank? They'd add a lot of life there Of course, they'd never survive the damsels and tangs you have there. Do you have any Angels? Personally, I like wrasses and butterflies. My favorite butterflies are from the Red Sea and they prolly aren't available anymore. The Lemon Butterfly.

Great tank!
