Despite everything that's been going on lately, myself and 120 other people had fun on Wednesday.
For the last three years we have been the sponsor of the United Ways "One Percent Event Art Extravaganza". The idea is that for the first fundraiser of the year they want to raise one percent of their total goal. We double mat ( all complex mats, I like to strut my stuff ) and shrink wrap donated artwork that will be given away for the price of a ticket to the event ( $125 per couple ). Local restaurants donate lots of munchies which you indulge in while looking at and deciding which pieces you like while a string quartet plays in the background, everything frome local watercolours to A.J. Casson prints.
Anticipation and laughter mount as names are pulled one by one and people pick their art or see their first choice picked by someone else. Values range from $200 to $1000.
We raised over $8000 in 3 hours.
A common conversation thread was that it felt good to do good since everyone has been in shock for the last week.
It made me feel good.
