The Goddess heard quite the racket coming from her workshop last week... BOINGGGG!
The spring from her Fred Flintstone era manual underpinner (made by Simons in the UK) had lost it's bounce! We called the manufacturer-- no more springs, no more underpinners. But we are attached to this underpinner and do not plan to replace it for a while!
Does anyone know of a spring supplier out there? (UMS carries only the major brands)Or even perhaps of a concern who could reproduce this spring for us? Any leads would be gratefully appreciated!

Goddess, try a good old fashioned hardware. We have one in our area that can do, or find, almost anything.

Good Luck! Sue.

Yep! If you can find a real, old-fashioned one, that's the place to get your spring. Another suggestion would be either a tractor (farm variety) or lawn mower place. Take your old spring with you and check, not only for length, but for tension. As long as the spring is the right length, the diameter is not s-o-o critical, but the tension is.

Good luck!!

I'm not totally worthless. I can always be used as a bad example...

Dear Goddess:
The end off a spring in our archaic guillotine broke off the other day. I went down to a spring supplier/manufacturer in the local industrial park, who warped it like new for me - and didn't even want to charge for such a minor service. He can be sure he gets any future business though.
If you can find a spring manufacturer, they will make it to spec, and it won't cost too much - as opposed to a spring that has been through one too many distributors.Surely Stunning, Ohio has such a place?
Cheers,
Mike Wilson
PS> Is that Stunning as in beautiful, or as in incapacitating?

Or incapacitatingly beautiful...

Ah, but I had read this when it was posted...I would have said the same thing...many's the time when my trusty old Keeton has sprung a sping and I've been bailed out by the local hardware folk!
See you in Louisville
