Framer indicated he spends about 65-70 hours a week at work(and to think he spends time running this forum). I suspect many others are in the same boat. How many hours do you spend weekly running your operation? I'll start with mine-when I hit 50 a week, I'm spending too much time at the stores. It's time for a little r&r for this cowboy. How do the rest of you spend your work time?

I am not an owner, but I play one in my shop. . .I typically work 45-50 hours a week. We are closed Sunday and Monday. Occasionally I make appointments on Mondays, which would nudge that number higher. I prefer to stay an extra hour in the evening and make sure all the tickets are written clearly and entered in the computer properly rather than leaving it for the next morning.
(I am paid a salary, not hourly. The owners are aware of how much time I put in, and are appreciative)

Well, I hate to sound like the odd man out, here. But we're open 32 hours per week (closed Sunday and Monday), and maybe an extra 4-6 hours on top of that. And I think we're doing pretty good.
But, I seem to do alot of things different than the typical frame shop.
Do you remember that ad in Decor a year or so back where it showed a picture of a framer who said he was lazy, only open 4 days a week and sold in the 6 figures. The ad was for some framing software. Well, I tracked that guy down, talked to him and learned alot. So now I can say the same.

I guess i'm luckier than some. I work 32 to 36 hours a week.
We have a great store manager who helps us over the rough spots and allows us to take 4 to 5 weeks off during the year.
Of course I should explain that we have been here 25 years and everyone here enjoys what they do. The key is to have and retain great people!!

On the door it says that I'm open 32 hours a week, and I get occasional flack for that. Real time is about 45 hours on a regular week, and as many as necessary during crunch times. I could spend every waking hour here and not get it all done, not that I have that much business, but I own the 50some year old building my shop is in and there is always something to work on.
Framers hours seem excessive now, but I remember those days.

I could've written the above, with the exception of the vacation time. I'll take about 8 weeks time this year.
Framechick you're my kind of employee! YOU WILL BE REWARDED SOMEDAY! Hopefully not only with appreciation.
Gotta go...leaving on a 4 day golf trip with some friends.

I'm currently working 74 hours/week, I'm also on salary which most certainly allows for these hours. I'm only young and have very large goals, big hours and gaining experience is the way that I've decided to reach them. One more thing, I love my job.

I am often at the shop 50-55 hours a week. If I'm actually working throughout those 55 hours I don't have much energy left for a life. Other times I'll spend a full 8-9 hr. day at the shop and still put in additional hours grumbling, making up advertising and/or job related learning activities.....or having a life!

Right now I work Monday and Wednesday 9:30-5:30, off Tuesday, Thurs. and Fri. 8:30-1:00, and Saturday as needed, usually 9:30-1:00. So what's that? Less than 30 hrs. I work more during my daughter's school year, but right now, I want to be home for her. But even then, I try not to work more than 4-5 full days a week.

Lets see....40 hours a week at my regular job and 35 hours a week at the shop. total 75 hours a week sunday off. No vacation, vacation from regular job is spent at the shop.

I'm a recovering work-aholic. I currently put 40-50 hrs a week. Not too bad considering I have 6 kids at home to take care of. I used to average 60+ hours with my largest week being clocked in at 93 hours. Being self employed you do what you have to to pay the bills. Fortunately for me (and my family) business has acheivd a point at which I do not have to spend so many hours. My advice to anyone is Family comes first.
