My press has started to "act funny" (I wish it was making me laugh!

) I suspect the thermostat is going bad or is bad. The temp readout on the front jumps around when it's warming up or idle by 10 to 15 degrees. It seems to be more stable when it's in operation, but it's still jumping. (It read over 100 degrees up at one point while it was warming up.)

So far, it's still performed fine, but it's time for me to take some action!

So, is this easy to change? Where do I get one?

Cliff, you might want to try some indicator test strips to see how it's running. If you don't have any, let me know and I can probably send you a few.

But, yup, it sounds like a thermostat might be crapping out.

I've replaced mine twice. In fact, it's the only thing that's ever gone wrong with my Vacuseal in about 20 years.

The first trick is to figure out what the company is called these days. Once you reach them, they will FedEx a thermostat and a schematic. It might be a couple hundred dollars.

They will also offer to fly out a couple of techs to assist you, but I would pass on that. It would probably be cheaper to buy a new press.

If you're as smart as I suspect you are, you won't have any trouble installing a new thermostat.

BTW, mine didn't die slowly - they went out with a bang. Literally.

Call Wendy in tech service at Elmer's (Hunt) - 1-704-872-9511 ext. 5304. She's great and will be able to get you fixed up real quick!!

Thank you! Ron, I don't have any test strips. Where did you get them?

I'll call Wendy right now.

Thanks again.

Oh, geez, I probably got them from United 15 years ago. Now that I shot my mouth off, I can't seem to find them in the "usual" spot. Some idiot must've moved them.

I tried to do a Google search for Hunt Seal and ended up with a petition to sign to protest the slaughter of baby seals.

I forgot about Elmer.

I just talked to Wendy. It appears (we're withholding some judgement for a more lengthy test) that I just had a loose connection under the control panel.

Thanks calley, and Thanks Wendy!
