A customer brought in a 40 Licks serigraph by Ron Wood, framed by somebody in CA, most likely hired by the publisher. This print is rippled within the image. The customer would like me to make the ripples go away. Although it has the saddest framing, I doubt that it because of inferior framing. Has anyone framed this print and noticed any problems? I'm just trying to figure out my course of action. It was not from moisture in the customer's home. I'm thinking that it is just the nature of the print. Any thoughts would be appreciated if you have worked with this print.

It had three hinges of linen tape on top about an inch of width. Two of the hinges were on the very edge of the print, something that I would not have done. I would have brought them in a bit. One hinge was in the middle. Also it was hinged to the mat, not a backing board, something else that was not correct.

Also they put some 1 or 2 ply rag behind it taped on three sides, which might have been constricting. I'll nix the 1 or 2 ply and use a piece of rag to hinge the print.

Also it was all taped with masking to tape to the plexi (looking very cheep too.) I don't know if tight sealing could cause it to ripple.

Also the whole package is 43 x 35 1/2. Doesn't have an archival mat, but they backed it with the 1 or 2 ply rag. Fillet is right up against the print too.

No excuses, they took every shortcut possible and it's worth big bucks!

The hinges alone may have been the primary cause. The hinges being at the outermost points allow for sagging in the middle.
