WTB: 4 Stanley 400 or comparable corner vises....

I wouldn't buy shop fox brand ones myself. They arent as true as some of the other brand in my opinion. They are the light blue ones.

I have been buying them regularly on Ebay and restoring them. The least expensive one was $25 (plus shipping,) which unfortunately runs about $25 per vise. They show up almost weekly. Some pay as much as $150 each plus shipping, but if you are patient, you can find them on average of $50-$75 (plus shipping).

A good used Stanley 400 is hundreds of times better than any Chinese import.

Thanks Rob..........I have been checking on Ebay and they have all been much more that I can afford, especially with shipping tacked on. I ended up purchasing these:

Hope they will work ok. :)
We have two full sets of their close cousins, and yes they work fine! The 90 degrees is absolutely true.

However, we had to spend some time judiciously filing off minor burrs from the edges of the clamping surfaces which otherwise would mar the moulding. Took just a few minutes per clamp with a fine flat file. You need to go very easy on this, don't round out the clamping surfaces.

Of course if you want some really nice clamps, you need to put out about $2k for a nice set of these. Ooooh, high pressure clamps!

Jeff, thanks for the vote on these clamps.

More-so..................I read on another thread about the Masterclamps I and II. Wouldn't they be the bomb to have!! Wish I could afford them. Thanks for the advice about the burrs on these vises and glad to know that they work ok.

Modigity.............thanks, I'll look into the logan vises for smaller frames.

:)
