I'm wondering if people are holding off on ordering new PCs because of Vista. Dell is having a 25% off sale on their E521 desktops and Inspiron E1401 Notebooks (ends 2/28). That alone is worth noting, as it can come up to a pretty sizeable amount (I saved almost $500 on mine). But to accentuate their desperation, I ordered one at 3:30 Friday afternoon, and this morning I got a call from UPS saying that they would be delivering it tomorrow!

Vista is ok for most things.

It may have problems with many old programs and games, but is fine for anything new.

It is NOT compat with most POS Systems or visualization systems as of yet. This is why I haven't posted any deals lately. (It's ok with LSS, but not FV)

They have a sale every week, and each division has different prices and sales. I suggest dealing only with the small business division. While the home division is supported via India, the SB is supported from the USA. If you have to call, this can sometimes be a source of frustration. The business division employees seem to be better trained, IMO.

Today's business division sales:
Dell E521 AMD Athlon 64 X2 3800+ Desktop $469 3200+ $409 - 20in LCD +180
Dell Dimension 9200 Core 2 Duo Desktop 19in LCD $699 Exp 2/28
Dell Dimension C521 Dual Core X2 3800+ Desktop 19in LCD $599 Exp 2/28
Dell Dimension E521 AMD 3200+ Desktop 15in LCD $449 Exp 2/28

Happy shopping!

Our old laptop died a two weeks ago (the fan went out, the screen hasn't worked for a few years and it was flaking keys). We looked at the Dell deals but we didn't want Vista because of the compatability issues so we went to Best Buy and asked them what they had left with XP. Wound up with a Compaq Presario which was the last one they had and close out priced. It's actually a more powerful machine than the on sale Dell we looked at for about the same price. Now Gary has a computer he can take on location with him and download pictures to at weddings again.

The weird part is the very first computer we owned for our business was a Compaq Presario we bought in the mid-90s. That was a regular PC, not a laptop. Guess we've come full circle.
