I have an oil painting approx. (12 x 14") on tin dated 1867. It is not framed. I was thinking of matting it after floating it on a piece of rag board. If I go this route, I was wondering how best to adhere the tin to the rag mat. I also would appreciate any other ideas on framing. The signature and date would be covered if I use conventional framing. Thanks and best.

There are probably a number of grumblers with other solutions, but I would use the Lascaux 498 HV adhesive available from University Products.

It's archival, totally reversible on tin and has strong adhesive properties.

How about a sink mount, surrounding the tin piece with strips of ragboard which will be hidden by the mat.
